Bergen Sprint Camp

The organisers of Bergen Sprint camp had worked insanely hard to deliver an intense programme of tricky sprint courses for over 300 participants from 21 Nations.
Unfortunately the weather Gods did not cooperate with the organising team and delivered some snow which made things even more challenging for the runners.
14 HSK runners arrived in Bergen on Friday afternoon and got our heads into Sprint-map mode with some line courses in the City centre before the series of fiercely fought race trainings began.

First up a Night sprint with devilishly complex route choices to solve.
Those serious about improving their sprint skills needed to invest at least double their race time analysing the route choices and split times after the race.

Most of us resolved to do a better job in the next day's City Sprint and Urb-O interval loops on the steep slope above Bryggen.
Narrow alleyways, irregularly shaped buildings and zigzag paths snaking up and down the hillside provided so many route choice problems that even a geometry genius would struggle to get all the optimum routes, at least under race pace and whilst trying to stay upright on slippery slush.
Ida was really satisfied with her execution of the City Sprint choosing all but one 'better' route variant, according to the online sprint geeking tool: SPAS.
Kine also said she felt in control of her sprint technique the whole way. Most of the HSK runners seemed to feel that their sprint mastery was improving from session to session.
Mari dominated the Saturday afternoon Sprint loops setting the fastest time amongst the women on 3 of the 5 loops.

Ida, Kine, Mari and Antonio all made it into their respective A finals for the Bergen Sprint Camp final which consisted of a mass start sprint race with a pretty successful forking system and of course more route choice problems.
In the end Galina Vinogradova and Yannick Michels were the BSC victors with HSK runners close behind and battling hard in the other heats. H?kon and H?kon were regularly amongst the fastest sprinters in the large H17-18 class.
Fredrik crushed his rivals in the C final, calling his performance 'not bad for a non-sprinter.' After some mishaps in the earlier rounds Iliana and Helen redeemed themselves slightly by fighting hard towards the front of the D-final.

Bergen's weather Gods showed mercy for the final day of BSC and provided glorious sunshine.
An 8 year old Bergen resident said it was the first time he had seen a cloudless sky.
