He also have a dream of being “ensam i tät” at a night leg during Tiomila or Jukola. The next new orienteer presenting himself is Håvard Wedege.

For those who do not know you, who are you (short presentation)?

I am 25 years old and grew up in Bodø. I have spent the last 6 years studying Law in Kristiansand, while training towards the dream of running WOC. I am married to Amalie, a middle-distance runner from Bergen, and together we are moving to Halden this summer.

Why have you choosen to run for Halden Skiklubb?

Halden has a long history of developing top runners. In addition, it seems like it is a very good club environment. The quality of training and camps is very good, and I have always liked the terrain around Halden. I am moving to Halden to hopefully take the last steps to become a top runner, and I look forward to being a part of the daily training environment in town.

How long have you been an active o-runner, and how were you introduced to (and interested in) orienteering?

I was brought into the sport by my father, and took my first controls in Bodø Orienteering at the age of 10. I participated in many sports when I was a child; handball, swimming, cross-country skiing, football, gymnastics and ballet. Orienteering was a perfect match, and soon the whole family participated in competitions in Norway and around in Europe during the holidays.

Greatest achievements in the o-course so far, and what is your best orienteering memory?

The greatest achievements so far must be when I was running second leg at last years Norwegian Champs relay. Our team was not amongst the favorites, but I had a solid run bringing our team from 12. place to 3. place. The joy of watching our last leg runner sprinting away from Nydalens SK, securing the Bronze medal felt just amazing, and was a big surprise for the whole club.

What are your ambitions for 2022?

Individually, the goal is to qualify for representation tasks, and fight for the top 6 places in the Norwegian Cup / Norwegian Champs. In the relays, the goal is to make stable races that help the team. I got a medal in the Norwegian Champs relay last year, and hope to get a new one this year.

Some quick facts:

  • Sprint or forest? = I must say the forest. The best feeling is when you hit that flow-feeling during a tricky middle distance
  • Night or day? = I am most experienced at day, but I have a wet dream of being “ensam i tät” at a night leg during Tio or Jukola
  • TioMila or Jukola? = I have run Jukola more times than Tiomila, but the team spirit when both the women's team, the men's team and the youth teams compete the same weekend is very fun with Tiomila
  • Relay or individual? = Draw, the big goal is to compete at EOC, WOC and in the World Cup, but legends are made during the night in Jukola and Tiomila. Winning as a team is always more fun.
  • Flat or hilly? = Hilly terrains give more fun
  • Tights or nylon?? = True orienteers wear nylon
